GENERAL

  • Length: 5-12 months
  • Launch Time: Fall or Spring
  • Purpose: dive into culture/ministry, explore missions more deeply, experience "gap year"

WHO

  • Age/Life Stage: 19+, has lived "on your own" for at least 6 months
  • Education: post-high school, preferably some college
  • Walk with Christ: committed relationship, able to minister, gifts to offer
  • Prior cross-cultural experience: at least 1 cross-cultural experience
  • Other prerequisites: proven ministry experience in church, school or cross-culturally
  • Marital Status:  Single or married, (if married, must be for at least 1 year and intern with spouse); preferably no children.


PRE-FIELD

  • Preparation: CO weekend training (Oct, March, or July), online materials, language learning, personality and gifts test
  • Length of typical prep-time: 6-9 months (from application to departure)
  • Fundraising: ALL outgoing and first 2 months funds received 1 month before departure, 100% monthly pledges committed from recurring donors (up to number of months on the field)
  • Budget: pre-set monthly amount per site plus airfare and outgoing costs


ON-FIELD

  • Typical role: involved in daily ministry, help lead teams, deeper staff relationship, explore long term missions
  • Cultural Immersion: develop deeper local friendships, learn language, dig into history/traditions/religion
  • Language learning: 3-4 hours class/study per week
  • Intern Team: mid-term interns typically come as individuals and join the existing team of staff and other interns
  • Housing: individually; with interns, locals or Envision staff
  • Discipleship: meet regularly with site coordinators, help mentor teams
  • Relationship with staff/field team: varies, often involved in team meetings and field leadership
  • Responsibilities with group trips: help coordinate teams; increased leadership for teams later in internship


POST-FIELD

  • Debrief: individual debrief with coordinators before departure, exit interview with Envision staff
  • Follow-up: materials sent for further debrief, phone call/skype evaluation
  • Future Investment: stay connected to site, mobilize others, lead a team, explore long-term commitment
